Space Drone project has been approved

I'm very pleased that KickStarter has finally approved my project for the Space Drone. Been trying to get my project to final production for a couple of years now, but never had the money to do it, now KickStarter has given me an opportunity to make it happen. So far I have about 5 backers, but need many more to reach my goal of $4200. If you like the Space Drone and would like to obtain one for yourself as either a kit or finished product please consider becoming a backer, the pledge rewards break down as follows:

  • $1 Thank you page mention
  • $6 Thank you card plus mention on Thanks Page
  • $15 Thu hole bare PCB
  • $30 Kit version
  • $90 Full version, completed and assembled

Space Drone 2nd Prototype

E-mail Print PDF

The Space Drone is a 4 oscillator drone synth. Using a 40106 cmos chip for the square waves and an op-amp for the filter.

This was the second prototype I had made, the first had a switch to turn the filter off/on, but the change in volume was so great when you switched it that I decided to leave it out. plus it added more space in the enclosure.

Prototyping Boards

Pot and Toggle switch Boards

Trying to use pots and toggle switches for prototyping isn't easy.

Although the Alpha pots will fit on a breadboard they will eventually wiggle loose.

Toggle switches you have to solder wires to the switch and place the wires in the bread board, a bit problematic IMHO.

If your going to be soldering the switches anyway you might as well solder then to a PCB and then solder on some male or female headers, then use proper breadboard wires to make your connections. So I designed these 2 proto boards to do just that, one for pots and the other for toggles.

Very First Prototype

The first prototype of the Space Drone was actually a big success, now getting it to fit inside the enclosure is another story.

I had to use nuts on the bottom plate to add some hight in order to get every thing to fit, but it sounded awesome!

You can listen to demo here at You Tube
